Classification of Members

Article 9:
There shall be three classes of membership: Active, Honorary, and Associate.

a.
Active Members shall consist of United States citizens and the spouses of United States citizens admitted to the American Society after having fulfilled the formalities specified in these bylaws;

b. Honorary Members shall consist of the United States Ambassador to Brazil, the United States Consul General in São Paulo, and such other persons as may be chosen to be honored with that title by the Board of Governors. Honorary Members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges extended to Active Members;

c. Associate Members shall consist of those persons not eligible for Active membership admitted to the American Society after having fulfilled the formalities specified in these bylaws. Associate Members shall be entitled to all rights and privileges extended to Active Members, with the exception of the right to vote at meetings of members of the Society, to receive welfare benefits, and such other rights and privileges as the Board of Governors may from time to time determine shall be the exclusive rights and privileges of Active and Honorary Members.
